Following the success of our East Coast tour in 2015 we decided to embark on a West Coast odyssey in 2016 and will perform at Hokitika’s Regent Theatre on Saturday 28 May and the NBS Theatre in Westport on Sunday 29 May. The choir takes great delight in bringing its unique form of entertainment to new audiences and is excited to be embarking on yet another jaunt. The chance of a road trip also brings the opportunity to bond with fellow members and have the occasional impromptu sing-along accompanied by a few guitars and the occasional medicinal tipple to lubricate the vocal chords.
The touring party has doubled in size this year, creating some logistical challenges for those making the arrangements and particularly for in-house tour leader and choir secretary, Cally Burke, who says these excursions make herding cats look easy. She hopes she is up to the task! This time we have the services of a professional guitarist and drummer to accompany our immensely talented Musical Director and Pianist Max Tocker. This trio will raise the production standards of the performance to new levels as the additional instruments offer Max the opportunity to be more creative with the sound.
A couple of flash-mob stops are planned to ambush locals and sell any remaining tickets as we travel, but also because we enjoy the surprise element of guerrilla marketing. So if you are on the coast that weekend have your ears tuned and your cameras ready as you never know where Pops will pop up!
